About
Also known as pyroligneous acid or smoke water, wood vinegar is a versatile and eco-friendly liquid made up of over 200 different organic compounds. Wood vinegar has a range of applications, most of which are broadly agricultural, from food preservation, as a pest and disease deterrent in animal bedding, through to its most well-known applications on soil and plant health.
Wood vinegar is effectively an organic bio-stimulant/fertiliser promoting plant growth by stimulating the development of roots, stems, leaves, flowers, and fruit. Wood vinegar’s versatility means it can be used as a foliar spray, applied to soil, added as a compost accelerant and nutrient enhancer, and can also be used to quench biochar with nutrients.
Wood vinegar also promotes plant resilience, acting as a natural pest and disease deterrent and is also proven to be an excellent seed germinator, replicating nature’s Karrikin process that occurs after a fire.
A Natural, Organic Fertiliser
Wood vinegar promotes plant growth, boosting crop yields between 20% and as high as 150%
Improves Soil Fertility
- Wood vinegar enhances soil fertility, structure, drainage, and aeration.
Improves Plant Resilience
Wood vinegar improves plant tolerance and stress resistance to drought, pests, and diseases.
Improves Plant Health
Enhanced antioxidant enzyme activity, a reduction of oxidative stress, and helps maintain a higher chlorophyll content.
Enhanced Nutritional Quality
Wood vinegar improves the nutritional quality of fruits and vegetables (E.g. soluble sugar, soluble protein, and vitamin content)
Seed Germination & Karrikin Replication
Wood vinegar is an excellent seed germinator and replicates nature’s Karrikin process of some seed germination only occurring after fire.
Natural Option for Weeds
Wood vinegar is phytotoxic at high concentrations, making it a potential natural option as a non-selective organic herbicide.
Eco-Friendly Alternative
A green alternative to synthetic growth regulators, improving crop health, yield and quality without harmful environmental impacts.
Environmental Impact
Renergi advocates and collaborates with farmers to champion sustainable and eco-friendly practices, contributing to a resilient agricultural industry.
FAQs
Here are some of the most common questions we are asked about wood vinegar....
What is in wood vinegar? Is it organic?
Wood Vinegar is a versatile and eco-friendly liquid made up of acetic acid and over 200 different bioactive compounds, such as phenolic compounds, esters, alkanes, and ketones. Wood Vinegar is considered a natural organic product as long as it is made from clean and uncontaminated biomass feedstocks. Wood vinegar (and biochar) largely maintain the composition of the original biomass from which they are made.
What are the application rates for wood vinegar?
The applications rates will vary depending on what it is you want to achieve, with dilution rates ranging as low as 10x and as high as 200x. As a general rule if the application is as a bio-stimulant and resilience building, the dilution is at the higher end. Renergi recommends always testing the product before applying at scale.
