Also known as pyroligneous acid or smoke water, wood vinegar is a versatile and eco-friendly liquid made up of over 200 different organic compounds. Wood vinegar has a range of applications, most of which are broadly agricultural, from food preservation, as a pest and disease deterrent in animal bedding, through to its most well-known applications on soil and plant health.
Wood vinegar is effectively an organic bio-stimulant/fertiliser promoting plant growth by stimulating the development of roots, stems, leaves, flowers, and fruit. Wood vinegar’s versatility means it can be used as a foliar spray, applied to soil, added as a compost accelerant and nutrient enhancer, and can also be used to quench biochar with nutrients.
Wood vinegar also promotes plant resilience, acting as a natural pest and disease deterrent and is also proven to be an excellent seed germinator, replicating nature’s Karrikin process that occurs after a fire.
